15 million Ukrainians need humanitarian aid: UN Secretary General

Due to the full-scale aggression of Russia, more than 15 million Ukrainians found themselves in a critical situation and in need of humanitarian assistance. This was stated by UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres during his speech at the Security Council meeting in New York.
“Despite incredible difficulties, the UN continues its participation, supporting the largest international presence in Ukraine. This year alone, together with our partners, we provided life-saving assistance to more than 6.2 million people. However, we need the support of the international community. 15 million residents of Ukraine are in need of humanitarian assistance, more than half of them are women and children”, he said.
The war in Ukraine has already forced nearly 10 million citizens from their homes, creating one of the largest humanitarian crises in Europe in decades. Over two and a half years of hostilities, more than 11,000 civilians were killed. These figures are only the tip of the iceberg of destruction and human tragedies that continue to unfold on Ukrainian territory.
At the same time, Antonio Guterres emphasized that “with the approach of winter, less than half of our Humanitarian Response Fund has been financed.” In this regard, the politician calls on donors to “help us carry out important work on the ground.”
