22 US states have filed a lawsuit against Trump

Attorneys general from the Democratic Party of 22 states filed a lawsuit in federal court in Massachusetts. They are challenging US President Donald Trump’s executive order revoking birthright citizenship for children of migrants. About this informs Associated Press.
The lawsuit claims that the executive order, signed by Trump on his first day in office, violates the 14th Amendment to the US Constitution. It guarantees citizenship to everyone born on the territory of the country. California Attorney General Rob Bonta called Trump’s order “clearly unconstitutional and inconsistent with American values.”
“Our nation’s great promise is that everyone born here is a United States citizen capable of achieving the American dream. This fundamental right to birthright citizenship, rooted in the 14th Amendment and born from the ashes of slavery, is the cornerstone our nation’s commitment to justice.” – said New York Attorney General Letitia James.
Such states as New York, California, Massachusetts, Michigan, as well as the cities of Washington and San Francisco joined the lawsuit. According to the decree, the revocation of citizenship for children of migrants should take effect within 30 days of its signing.
