The medals were designed by the French jeweler Chaumet with the addition of iron taken from the Eiffel Tower during its reconstruction in the 20th century. However, as early as August 2024, after the end of the Olympics, some athletes, especially bronze medal winners, expressed complaints about their quality.
The spokesman for the 2024 Games assured that the athletes will be given new awards that will be “identical to the original.” As a result, half a year after the end of the Olympics, there were 220 requests for replacement, which is 4% of the 5,084 medals drawn at the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris.
