Member of the European Parliament lost immunity due to suspicion of receiving bribes from Russia
Member of the European Parliament from the “Alternative for Germany” party Petr Bystrony was deprived of parliamentary immunity during the plenary session due to suspicion of receiving bribes from Russia. About this informs Euronews.
The Munich Prosecutor’s Office initiated several criminal cases against Bystron. He is suspected of receiving cash or cryptocurrency from a pro-Russian website in exchange for promises to speak and vote in the interests of Moscow.
Other charges include money laundering, fraud and tax evasion. The decision to revoke immunity was made by a majority vote by a show of hands — without the need for a formal count. Bystron denies all accusations, saying that he has become the object of political persecution.
“The plan to deprive me of immunity is not a legal procedure, but a purposeful political maneuver,”– said Bistron.
He added that this step is part of a campaign against a number of politicians who are “one of the most outspoken opponents of the war in Ukraine.” Deprivation of immunity allows the German authorities to continue the investigation and, if necessary, arrest Bystron.
