The first 6,000 places for burials were prepared on the territory of the National Military Memorial Cemetery. About this reported Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal.
“Together with the representatives of the Government, the Kyiv OVA, the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance, veterans’ and public organizations, historians and the families of the victims, they coordinated our next steps. This year, the construction of the first launch complex of the 1st stage was completed. 6 thousand places have been prepared for burials. The first burials will begin here in the near future.”, says the message.
According to Shmyhal, commemorating defenders of Ukraine is one of the main directions of state policy in the field of veteran support. The National Military Memorial Cemetery is intended to be a place of showing respect, dignity and gratitude to those who sacrificed their lives for the sake of Ukraine.
“Construction of the second launch complex is underway. There is still a lot of work ahead. The task of the state is to create proper conditions where everyone can pay tribute to our Heroes”, – emphasized the head of the government.
The National Military Memorial Cemetery is intended to honor Ukrainian military personnel who died defending the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
At first, the idea of placing the cemetery in the Bykivnyansky forest on the way out of Kyiv was considered, where the National Historical and Memorial Reserve “Bykivnyansky Graves” dedicated to the victims of Soviet repressions is already functioning. However, the reserve stated that due to unexplored areas, where there may be undiscovered burials, it is impossible to implement the project there in a short period of time.
As a result, a decision was made to create a memorial cemetery within the boundaries of the Gatna community of the Kyiv region. The government noted that the completion of the design of the object is planned by July 30, 2025.
