Ukrainian veterans with amputees conquered the Himalayas

Two veterans of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine — Ivan Tarn from the “Artan” unit and Oleksandr Dashko from the “Kraken” unit — climbed the Himalayas. Both soldiers have amputations received as a result of hostilities. About this reported in GUR MO.

During the ascent, the scouts were accompanied by experienced climbers Tetyana Yalovchak and Taras Pozdnii. The veterans were able to reach a height of more than 5,000 meters above sea level.

“You see it all in front of you, but it’s hard to believe your eyes. It’s like you’re looking at very, very real photo wallpapers. Unbelievable beauty.” Ivan Tarn shared his impressions.

Oleksandr Dashko noted that many people did not believe in his ability to climb, because he has a “very large amputation”. He also emphasized that this experience should serve as an example for other wounded soldiers: “there is life after amputation.”

“Many people did not believe in this project and in me, because I have a very large amputation. No matter who I told about this adventure, they told me: they say, people don’t climb there even with two legs, and you don’t have a leg anyway, you will ruin your health even more – don’t climb. So it was difficult for me, but other guys with amputations should see this climb. They should see that there is life after amputation.”Oleksandr Dashko stressed.

The ascent took place within the framework of the Limitless project, the purpose of which is to draw attention to the problems of veterans with amputations, as well as to collect 3 million hryvnias to overcome phantom pain.
