A priest from Vinnytsia region received 5 years in prison for approving Russian aggression

Archpriest Yevhen Koshelnyk, the abbot of the temple of the Kaliniv parish of Vinnytsia diocese of the UOC MP, who publicly supported Russia’s armed aggression, was sentenced to five years in prison without confiscation of property. About this informs SBU press office.
According to the case materials, during sermons and communication with parishioners, Koshelnyk openly praised Russian President Vladimir Putin and heroized the actions of Russian military formations that are trying to occupy Ukraine. He also expressed hopes for the capture of Vinnytsia region and other regions of central Ukraine.
SBU officers documented his actions, and in August 2024, an official indictment was issued. The conducted examinations confirmed the fact of information-subversive activity in favor of the Russian Federation.
The court found the archpriest guilty under parts 2 and 3 of Article 436-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (justification, recognition as legitimate or denial of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation, glorification of its participants). Given his cooperation with the investigation, he was sentenced to five years in prison without confiscation of property.
