AI startup DeepSeek demonstrates a profitability of 545% per day

Chinese AI startup DeepSeek has revealed its cost and revenue figures related to its successful V3 and R1 models. According to the company, the cost-to-profit ratio reaches 545% per day. About this informs Reuters.

In a new report on GitHub, DeepSeek noted that at $2 per hour to rent a single Nvidia H800 chip, the total daily operating costs for the V3 and R1 models are $87,072. Meanwhile, the theoretical daily revenue they generate is $562,027, giving a calculated ratio of 545%. In a year, it could bring the company more than $200 million.

The disclosure of such financial figures could further affect shares of technology companies outside of China. In January, the shares of many players in the AI market plummeted after DeepSeek became the most downloaded free app.

The stock selloff was then sparked by DeepSeek’s claims that the company spent less than $6 million on chips to train its models, far less than U.S. competitors. At the same time, DeepSeek uses Nvidia H800 chips, which are less powerful than those available from OpenAI and other big players in the AI industry.
