Shots rang out during a speech by US presidential candidate Donald Trump at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania. He interrupted his speech and left the stage. The attacker was killed, and at least one rally participant was also killed, the district attorney said.

From the very beginning of the shooting, Trump crouched against the podium, guards ran up to him and took him out. Before leaving, the politician waved his hand, clenched into a fist. The videos show that Trump’s right ear was bleeding.

The Republican presidential candidate was addressing supporters in Butler, Pennsylvania, a swing state in the upcoming November election. Behind Trump stood his supporters with posters. When the shots rang out, they also ducked. According to the broadcast, the shots rang out when Trump was talking about the number of illegal immigrants in the United States.

Trump’s representative Stephen Chung said that the former president is in the hospital, where his condition is being evaluated by doctors:

“President Trump thanks law enforcement and emergency responders for their quick response to this horrific incident. He’s fine, he’s being checked out at a local hospital.”

Later, the Secret Service, which is responsible for protecting Trump, said that the attacker fired several shots in the direction of the stage “from a height outside the rally site”.

“Employees of the US Secret Service neutralized the shooter, he is dead. The US Secret Service quickly took protective measures, former President Trump is safe. One spectator died, two were seriously injured. The incident is under investigation. The Secret Service told the FBI,” – the statement says.

The identity of the attacker has not yet been named.

Earlier, Butler District Attorney Richard Goldinger told The Associated Press that the shooter had been killed. According to him, at least one participant of the Trump rally was killed, another spectator was injured and is in serious condition.

The Associated Press, citing two law enforcement officials, reported that the shooting at the Donald Trump rally was being investigated as an attempted assassination attempt.

CBS emphasized in its live broadcast that at such rallies, heightened security measures are always taken, people are passed through metal detectors.

Trump got in touch about 2.5 hours after the incident. This is reported  The Washington Post.

“I was hit by a bullet, it pierced the upper part of my right ear,” Trump said. – I immediately understood that something was wrong, heard a whistle, shots and immediately felt a bullet tearing the skin. I began to bleed profusely, so I realized what was happening,” – Trump wrote on the Truth Social social network.

He thanked the US Secret Service and all law enforcement agencies for their quick response to the shooting, and expressed his condolences to the families of those killed and wounded at the rally.

“It is unbelievable that such an act could happen in our country”, – wrote Trump.

At 9:02 p.m. local time (04:02 a.m. Kyiv time), police officers told a crowd gathered outside the Butler hospital that Donald Trump had left the motorcade through another exit.

Biden’s reaction

President Biden has been briefed on what happened, the White House said. The briefing was held by the heads of the secret service and the Department of Homeland Security, as well as Biden’s adviser on internal security. This is what the American president said after the briefing:

“I was informed of the shooting at the Donald Trump rally in Pennsylvania. I’m glad he’s safe and well. I am praying for him, his family and everyone who was at the rally. We are waiting for information. Jill and I are grateful to the Secret Service for keeping him safe. America has no place for such violence. The entire nation must unite and condemn this violence.”

Later, Biden spoke briefly to reporters – he is currently in the state of Delaware. He reported that Trump “feels good.” According to the US president, he tried to call his opponent, but so far he has not been able to do so. Asked if he believed Trump was assassinated, Biden said he would comment on the matter later:

“I have an opinion, but no facts.”

Security personnel are working at the scene. Democrat Josh Shapiro, the governor of Pennsylvania, said state police were working at the scene along with federal agencies.

“Violence against any political party or politician is absolutely unacceptable. He has no place in Pennsylvania and in the United States.” Shapiro said.

Vice President Kamala Harris was also informed about the event in detail. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was one of the first foreign leaders to react.

“Sarah and I are shocked by the attack on President Trump and we are praying for his safety and speedy recovery.” – he wrote on the X network (formerly Twitter).

It will be recalled that in May of this year, Donald Trump, addressing potential sponsors of his presidential campaign, assured them that Joe Biden was “ready to remove him.”
