An explosion occurred at a gas station in Rome: 45 people were injured (video)

In Rome, there was an explosion at a gas station, as a result of which 45 people were injured, two of them in a serious condition. About this informsANSA agency.

According to preliminary data, the cause of the accident was the disconnection of the tank pump that supplied fuel to the distribution system. As a result of the explosion, a total of 45 people were injured: among them, 24 civilians, 11 law enforcement officers, one carabinieri, six rescuers and three emergency workers. One person was pulled out of the car that caught fire after the explosion.

As a result of the explosion, cars parked near the gas station caught fire, including several ambulances. The publication notes that the consequences could have been even more serious, because there was an ambulance depot with oxygen cylinders located next to the gas station, which miraculously did not explode.

The regional director of the Lazio fire department, Ennio Aquilino, said that, according to the previous version, the explosion was caused by a malfunction of the gas installation. He compared its power to the explosion of a bomb. According to Aquilino, firefighters quickly arrived at the scene, but another explosion occurred due to a gas leak. As a result, at least one rescuer and several ambulance workers were injured.

The Prosecutor’s Office of Rome opened proceedings on the facts of causing bodily harm and unintentionally creating a threat of catastrophe. The reasons for the explosion are being clarified.
