In the US, an antimonopoly lawsuit has started against Google, which is accused of abusing its position in the search engine market. About this informs Reuters.
The US Department of Justice claims that Google can use its artificial intelligence products to further strengthen its monopoly position.
The suit, filed with the cooperation of several state attorneys general, includes a range of possible remedies, including forcing the sale of Chrome, voiding exclusivity contracts with device makers and requiring it to license search results to competitors.
“It’s time to tell all monopolists that there will be consequences for violating antitrust laws.” – said the lawyer of the Ministry of Justice, David Dahlquist.
The lawsuit also seeks a potential sale of the Android operating system if other measures fail to provide an adequate level of competition.
The case focuses on the connection between search platforms and generative products with artificial intelligence, such as ChatGPT. Representatives of OpenAI and Perplexity AI will be witnesses, who will explain how Google’s dominance affects the development of their technologies.
Google responded by saying it considered the demands unreasonable and warned that the proposed changes could slow technological progress in the US and hurt companies like Mozilla, which is funded in part by its partnership with Google.
“It’s just a wish list of competitors who want to take advantage of our innovation”,” noted Google attorney John Schmidtlein.
