As a result of the war in Ukraine, 548 children died

About 1.9 thousand children were injured as a result of hostilities on the territory of Ukraine. The majority of minor victims were in the Donetsk, Kharkiv and Kherson regions. Just last weekend, one child died in Kharkiv Oblast, and three others were injured.

“1,899 children were injured in Ukraine as a result of the full-scale armed aggression of Russia. As of the morning of May 27, 2024, according to the official information of juvenile prosecutors, 548 children were killed and more than 1,351 were injured of various degrees of severity. Children were most affected in the following regions: Donetsk – 532, Kharkiv – 378 , Khersonskaya – 152, Dnipropetrovsk – 139, Kyiv – 130, Zaporizhia – 108, Mykolaiv – 105”, – reported in Office of the Prosecutor General.

In particular, on May 25, a 12-year-old girl died as a result of an attack by guided aerial bombs on a construction hypermarket in Kharkiv. On the same day, a 13-year-old boy was injured by shelling in the center of Kharkiv.

On Sunday, May 26, two boys aged 9 and 12 were injured as a result of the shelling of the Izyum district by Russian troops.

In addition to deaths and injuries, Ukrainian children are subjected to forced deportations. Currently, more than 19,000 minor Ukrainians are considered to have been forcibly taken abroad. They were moved to uncontrolled Ukrainian territories, to Russia or Belarus. So far, only 669 children have been returned. Work in this direction continues. International partners help Ukraine in the repatriation of minors. Currently already 36 countries joined the International Coalition for the Return of Ukrainian Children.
