EU and the world

Borrell announced that some EU countries have already allowed Ukraine to use its weapons to attack the Russian Federation

Josep Borrell, Head of Diplomacy of the European Union, spoke with the statement that individual EU countries have decided to allow the use of their weapons for attacks on the territory of Russia. He noted that some of these states previously opposed the use of their weapons against targets in the Russian Federation, but “recently changed their position.” However, Borrell refrained from providing specific details about the countries that changed their position and their number.

In his statement, he admitted: “To be honest, I can’t say, I can’t put a number… I’m going to remove these restrictions. Others have said the same thing, but not so clearly. Others said: Well, let me think about it. So I can’t say the number of those who agreed or not“, Borrell noted.

Edition Citing sources, Politico reported that the deputies arrived in Washington in an effort to convince the administration of US President Joe Biden to lift the ban on strikes on Russian territory.  According to Politico, the parliamentarians are part of a larger group of Ukrainian representatives scheduled to meet with a dozen congressional offices to engage them in an effort to get the White House to change course.

Despite these efforts, two unnamed US officials, commenting on the situation for Politico, confirmed that the policy of the Biden administration remains unchanged: “The aid is intended for defense, not for offensive operations on Russian territory.”

It is also noted that the US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken emphasized that Ukraine has the right to independently decide how to resist Russian aggression, although the United States does not encourage strikes outside the country.
