Brazil bans sale of Colgate Total Clean Mint toothpaste

In Brazil, a ban on the sale of Colgate Total Clean Mint toothpaste came into force. Appropriate message made public National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa).

At the beginning of the year, users from Brazil began to complain en masse on social networks about unpleasant symptoms after using this paste. Among them are irritation in the oral cavity, burning, swelling of the gums and painful ulcers. In some cases, the victims had to seek medical help.

On March 27, the regulator imposed a temporary ban on the use and sale of this product until the investigation is completed. Colgate appealed the decision in court and got it overturned. However, at the end of April, the manufacturer withdrew its appeal. The reasons for the withdrawal of the appeal by the company are not disclosed, but after this decision the ban was automatically reinstated.

The company confirmed the withdrawal of the appeal on April 29, 2025, stressing that it continues to work with Anvisa. Colgate stated its confidence in the safety and quality of the toothpaste, noting that the product meets current regulatory requirements.

“Colgate confirms the safety of Colgate Total Clean Mint and remains open to dialogue through the official customer service channel,” – says the company’s statement.
