Cabinet of Ministers allocates additional €86 million for defence of energy infrastructure

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine decided to allocate an additional 86 million euros to strengthen security systems around key energy facilities. Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced this during the government meeting on October 8. He pointed out the importance of ensuring the reliability of the country’s energy system in the face of constant threats from Russian aggression.
According to Shmyhal, despite constant challenges, Ukraine continues active work on the restoration of damaged objects and the development of decentralized energy generation. He emphasized that the energy sector remains one of the key areas for the government, which, together with energy specialists, is working 24/7 to restore the system and modernize it.
The key element of the new decision was the redistribution of the funds of the loan received from the European Investment Bank. As a result, the government will be able to allocate an additional 86 million euros to the construction of new defense systems around energy facilities, which will minimize risks from Russian attacks. Shmyhal emphasized that these investments will significantly increase the security of the country’s energy infrastructure.
The prime minister also noted that the construction of protective structures of the third level at 22 Ukrenergo substations has already started in Ukraine. However, due to the high cost, completion of work is currently expected on only one or two sites. Despite this, the readiness of protective structures at Ukrenergo facilities already exceeds 85%, and work on their completion continues.
In general, the government allocated more than 10 billion hryvnias for the protection of energy infrastructure, and in addition, “Ukrenergo” invested more than 5 billion hryvnias in security and modernization measures.
