China is lobbying for its own “peace plan” for Ukraine before the summit in Switzerland

China, having refused to participate in the international summit on a peaceful settlement in Ukraine, is actively promoting its own alternative plan.  Beijing is conducting an intensive diplomatic campaign, lobbying the governments of various countries for its plan.

It informs Reuters.

China’s peace plan, presented jointly with Brazil, calls for an international peace conference with the participation of all parties to the conflict. The proposal has received support from Russia, while Ukraine and its allies express skepticism about China’s intentions.

Despite officially refusing to participate in the summit, China has been actively promoting its plan through meetings with high-ranking officials, phone calls and messages on the WeChat platform. China’s Special Representative for Eurasian Affairs Li Hui held talks with representatives of Turkey, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, and met with diplomats from developing countries in Beijing.

Chinese diplomacy has aimed to win support from developing countries for its peace plan, which some diplomats say is an attempt by China to undermine Western efforts to resolve the conflict.
