China’s Foreign Ministry announced its support for a 30-day ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine

China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its support for all efforts aimed at a political settlement of the so-called “Ukraine crisis”, including the 30-day ceasefire initiative proposed by Ukraine, Europe and the United States. About this stated Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian during a briefing.

“Regarding the “Ukrainian crisis” (as the PRC calls the Russian war against Ukraine), China’s position is consistent and clear. We believe that all efforts should be aimed at achieving peace.” said Lin.

He emphasized that Beijing hopes to continue the dialogue between the parties to the conflict in order to reach a fair, lasting and binding peace agreement that will be acceptable to all.

“We have always believed and continue to insist that the only viable way out of the ‘crisis’ is dialogue and negotiations,” – added a representative of the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

In response to a request to comment on US President Donald Trump’s call for more active participation of influential countries, including Turkey and China, in ending the war, Lin Jian said:

“China is ready, taking into account the wishes of the interested parties, to cooperate with the international community and continue to play a constructive role in solving the crisis and achieving long-term peace.”

Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, China has declared neutrality, and a year later took the initiative to mediate between Kyiv and Moscow. In particular, the special representative of the Chinese government, Li Hui, went to the capitals of Ukraine, European countries and Russia several times.

However, these diplomatic attempts turned out to be fruitless, primarily due to Beijing’s refusal to put pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin. In the first half of last year, the Chinese government gradually moved away from an active mediator role, focusing on general statements about the need for negotiations and a political settlement.
