“Clear Sky” drone interception system launched in Kyiv

On the instructions of the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, a large-scale air security program “Clear Sky” is being launched in Kyiv, which involves the creation of a full-fledged system of interception of enemy drones with the help of Ukrainian interceptor drones. About this reported Timur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv City Military Administration.

“The capital attracts more funds for the implementation of a large-scale project that involves the protection of airspace with the help of domestic interceptor drones”, — said the head of KMVA.

260 million hryvnias have been earmarked for the implementation of the initiative. These funds will be directed not only to the purchase of equipment, but also to the creation of an effective system for responding to air threats. Among the key elements of the program is the opening of a training center for drone operators, where specialists in the management of intercepting UAVs will be trained, and the formation of additional mobile units. They will be on duty both in the capital and on its outskirts.

Close coordination with the General Staff, the Air Force and other units of the Defense Forces is planned for the most effective interaction with the current air defense system. The pilot phase of the “Clean Sky” project has already taken place in Kyiv region. During several months of testing, it was possible to intercept almost 550 enemy Shahed drones.

“The 550 intercepted Shaheds are not just statistics. They are saved lives, infrastructure, hospitals, schools, energy.” – emphasized the head of the KMVA.

In addition to funds from the city budget, the authorities are working on attracting additional funding from extrabudgetary sources in order to expand the scope of the initiative.

“This is an investment in the safety of every resident of Kyiv. While the enemy attacks, we strengthen the defense. The sky over Kyiv will be clear.” – added the head of the administration.
