Denmark allocates EUR 600 million to strengthen Ukraine’s defence industry

Ukraine and Denmark signed a Letter of Intent regarding financial support for the development of Ukraine’s defense industry, which will allow attracting almost 600 million euros of investment. This step will be an important impetus for strengthening the Ukrainian defense sector, informs Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

The document was signed by the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Rustem Umyerov, the Minister of Strategic Industries of Ukraine Herman Smetanin and the Minister of Defense of Denmark Troels Lund Poulsen. It envisages investments from which Denmark will allocate 175 million euros, and the remaining 400 million euros will be attracted from the excess profits of frozen Russian assets.

These investments are aimed at the development of Ukrainian attack drones, missile systems and anti-tank systems. According to Rustem Umyerov, this financial support will significantly speed up the supply of necessary weapons to the front, strengthening the defense capability of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Umerov also reminded that Denmark already plays an active role in supporting Ukrainian military potential. For example, the Armed Forces of Ukraine received 18 “Bohdan” self-propelled artillery units, the production of which was financed by the Kingdom of Denmark.

The Minister of Defense emphasized that Ukraine is open to new formats of cooperation with other European countries, stressing the importance of a strong defense industry for victory on the battlefield and restoration of the country’s territorial integrity.

We will remind that earlier, in July, Denmark allocated 1.2 billion Danish kroner for the purchase of “Bohdan” artillery installations as part of the support of the Ukrainian defense sector. This project was initiated on the recommendation of the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Strategic Industries of Ukraine.
