Denmark and the United States agreed to hold talks on Greenland

Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen agreed with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio to hold talks on issues related to Greenland. About this informs press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark.

Rasmussen and Rubio agreed to return to the topic of Greenland during future talks, which will also involve Greenland itself. The meeting will be devoted to security issues in the Arctic region.

Denmark is seeking to resolve issues related to the territory following recent statements by US President Donald Trump about Washington’s desire to establish control over Greenland to strengthen international security. Separately, responding to Trump’s criticism of NATO, Rasmussen said that Denmark is ready to take more responsibility for its own security.

It will be recalled that Donald Trump expressed his intention to make Greenland a part of the United States, even declaring the possibility of using force. Denmark privately sent the Trump team proposals for Greenland. Copenhagen has no intention of “selling” the island, but is ready to discuss Washington’s other requests.
