During a visit to Greenland, Vance explained Trump’s statements about “buying” the island

US Vice President JD Vance visited Greenland. During a visit to an American military base, he explained President Trump’s statements about the possible “purchase” of the island.
According to Vance, China is “very interested” in Greenland:
“We’ve seen some economic pressure that they’re trying to put on Greenland. We know that they’re getting more and more involved in military exercises and showing military interest.”
The vice president also noted that the US cares “not only about its own interests”, but also “about the interests of Greenland” and its inhabitants. In addition, Vance criticized Denmark for allegedly neglecting the island.
“You haven’t invested enough in the people of Greenland and you haven’t invested enough in the security architecture of this incredible, beautiful land filled with incredible people. That has to change. And because that hasn’t changed, that’s why President Trump’s Greenland policy is the way it is.”, Vance explained.
He also stressed that the United States is considering increasing its military presence on the island if the need arises.
“If Greenland does not have the right to self-determination, if the people of Greenland have their future controlled by the Chinese Communist Party, it will not make their lives better. And most importantly, it will make American and global national security much, much weaker.”, – emphasized JD Vance.
Greenland Prime Minister Mute Burup Egede reacted to Vance’s visit, saying that the Greenlanders’ efforts to be diplomatic simply “bounce off Donald Trump and his administration in their mission to own and control Greenland.”
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, commenting on the event, said that “we take it seriously” and emphasized that Denmark seeks cooperation with the US, but it should be based on “fundamental rules of sovereignty”.
