During the year, 10 universities were cut in Ukraine: Ministry of Education and Science

Mykhailo Vynnytskyi, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine stated, that during the year, ten universities were reduced in the country by joining them to larger educational institutions.
Vynnytskyi noted that by the time Ukraine joins the European Union, it is planned to reduce the number of state universities to 100.
“In 12 months, the network has been reduced by 10 institutions. We do this by joining smaller universities to larger ones and those that cannot economically exist as separate institutions. We try to do it more or less painlessly. In some cases, it is possible to do it. In others, it is not. The rights of students and teachers are always protected.” – he explained.
According to the official, the optimization of the higher education network is not aimed at saving budget funds, but to consolidate the resource base and create better conditions for universities to compete in the European space.
He added that currently there are about 150 universities in Ukraine, of which 120 are under the Ministry of Education and Science.
We will remind that on September 24, 2024, the Cabinet of Ministers decided to join the Lviv National University of Nature Management to the Lviv National University of Veterinary Medicine and Biotechnology named after S. Gzhitskyi.
