Elon Musk publicly supported the idea of the US withdrawal from NATO and the UN

Elon Musk publicly supported the idea of the US withdrawing from NATO and the UN, publishing a post on the X social network (formerly Twitter) on March 2.
In his comment, he agreed with a statement by a right-wing political commentator who expressed the opinion that it is time for the US to withdraw from these international organizations. The mask is concise answered: “I agree.”
This statement was made against the background of the initiative of a group of American Republican legislators who submitted a bill on the withdrawal of the United States from the United Nations. They justify their position by the fact that the organization’s activities do not correspond to the principle of “America First” promoted by the administration of Donald Trump.
NATO and the UN were founded by the United States and its allies after World War II to ensure international security and diplomatic cooperation, as well as to prevent new global conflict.
Musk, who currently heads the U.S. Department of Government Efficiency, is an active proponent of cutting government spending, including international aid funding.
It will be recalled that Donald Trump has repeatedly criticized NATO for allegedly insufficient financial contributions from other member states. He also proposed setting a minimum level of defense spending of 5% of GDP for all members of the alliance.
Ukraine views NATO membership as an important element of its security, especially in the face of Russian aggression. However, in February, Trump said that Kiev “can forget” about joining the alliance, suggesting that the application submitted by Ukraine was one of the factors that provoked the war – an argument actively used by Russian propaganda.
In addition, the USA was among the few countries that at the end of February voted against the UN resolution condemning the Russian invasion of Ukraine. This list also includes Russia, Belarus, Israel and Hungary.
