EU agrees on 17th package of sanctions against Russia

The European Union agreed to the 17th package of sanctions against the Russian Federation, which included new restrictions, in particular regarding 189 vessels that are part of the so-called “shadow fleet” of Moscow. About this reported President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.
“I welcome the agreement on our 17th package of sanctions against Russia. We continue to restrict access to war-fighting technology. And we have added 189 more Shadow Fleet vessels to the list to target Russian energy exports.”, says the statement.
Ursula von der Leyen also emphasized that the war that Russia is waging against Ukraine must be stopped, and the European Union will continue to increase pressure on the Russian Federation.
With the beginning of Russia’s full-scale aggression against Ukraine, Kyiv’s allies began imposing sanctions against Moscow. The European Union, the United States of America, Great Britain, Canada, Japan, South Korea, Australia and other countries joined the restrictions.
The sanctions covered various sectors — the financial system (including the disconnection of a number of Russian banks from the SWIFT system, the freezing of assets of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation), a ban on the export of high-tech products, as well as personal sanctions against Russian officials, businessmen and propagandists. In addition, restrictions apply to energy, aviation, transport, the defense sector and trade.
