European Commissioner Dombrovskis said that financial assistance to Ukraine will be influenced by the independence of anti-corruption institutions

Financial aid to Ukraine, as well as its progress on the path to joining the European Union, depend on maintaining the independence of anti-corruption institutions. This was announced by European Commissioner for Economic Affairs Valdis Dombrovskis, who is responsible for coordinating financial support for Kyiv. About this informs Financial Times.

Dombrovskis noted that the National Anti-Corruption Bureau and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office are crucial to reform in Ukraine and must act independently to effectively fight corruption and maintain public trust.

“Our current financial assistance to Ukraine depends on transparency, judicial reforms (and) democratic governments. The same applies to Ukraine’s path to EU membership, which will also require a strong anti-corruption capacity.” – stressed the European Commissioner.

At the same time, Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavskyi said that his country is closely monitoring the situation in Ukraine and reminds that Kyiv’s support does not mean unconditional approval of all decisions of the Ukrainian authorities.

“Ukraine should be in Europe, and our support is directed to its people. But our support has never been and will never be carte blanche for any government actions. I reminded Minister Andrii Sibiza about this today.”, – noted Yan Lipavskyi.

German Foreign Minister Johann Wadeful called on Ukraine to continue the fight against corruption as consistently as possible:

“Limiting the independence of Ukrainian anti-corruption bodies complicates Ukraine’s path to EU membership. I expect that Ukraine will consistently continue the fight against corruption.”
