European standards for tissue transplantation are being introduced in Ukraine

The Cabinet of Ministers adopted a resolution regulating the tissue transplantation system in Ukraine. The new norms are aligned with European directives and are aimed at implementing the provisions of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU in the field of tissue transplantation. About this informs Ministry of Health
The document defines the procedure for extraction, storage, testing, processing and use of tissues for transplantation, as well as establishes requirements for their quality. Tissue transplantation will involve the transplantation of fragments of bones, tendons, ligaments, blood vessels, heart valves and other structures of the musculoskeletal system and cardiovascular system.
“Today’s decision will enable hospitals to establish hospital-based tissue banks. This is an important step to save the lives of military and civilians who have suffered severe injuries, as well as to provide care for patients with congenital defects and complex diseases that require reconstructive and plastic interventions.
Currently, tissue transplantation is not performed in Ukraine, but about 20,000 Ukrainians need such operations every year.” – noted Minister of Health Viktor Lyashko.
The State Service of Ukraine for Medicinal Products and Drug Control will be responsible for maintaining a register of medical institutions that carry out tissue transplantation and creating hospital banks, as well as for monitoring adverse reactions and possible complications after transplantation.
