Fraudsters have started sending phishing emails on behalf of the National Bank

June 12, National Bank of Ukraine recorded a fraudulent campaign with the sending of phishing letters imitating official messages from the NBU — both in the subject of the letter and in the name of the attached file.
“The criminals send letters from different e-mail addresses, but in the signature they indicate a fake e-mail: nbu@gov.nbu.ua(mailto:nbu@gov.nbu.ua), similar to the official domain of the National Bank of Ukraine”, – the NBU noted.
The National Bank urges not to download attachments from such letters and not to follow the links contained in them.
“We emphasize that for electronic correspondence, NBU employees use only the official corporate mail, which contains the domain @bank.gov.ua”, – the NBU explained.
According to the National Bank, the average amount of a fraudulent transaction with payment cards in Ukraine in 2024 increased by 40% and amounts to 4,247 hryvnias. The amount of losses from illegal actions and fraudulent transactions using payment cards for 2024 increased by 37% and reached 1.1 billion hryvnias.
The vast majority of fraud cases are associated with the use of social engineering methods. This means that customers independently disclose personal data, payment card details, confirmation codes and passwords for transactions.
