“Fake Calculator”: Ukrainians will be helped to check the veracity of news

In parallel with the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, an information war continues. The Russians use bot farms, spread fakes and conduct information and psychological operations. The level of media literacy does not always allow citizens to determine whether this or that information disseminated in the mass media is true. To help Ukrainians identify fake news, the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine, together with partners, has developed a free tool – “Fake Calculator”.

In addition to the ministry, the Association of Innovative and Digital Education, the Media Detector and the National Democratic Institute joined the creation of the platform. The developers hope that the “Fake Calculator” will increase the level of media literacy of the population.

“We created this tool not only to be informative, but also educational, because it shows Ukrainians what criteria true news has, and what signs are inherent in fake news. Thus, after some time of using this portal, users will already be able to easily and accurately distinguish the truth on their own from fakes. We expect that more than 100,000 people will use it in the near future.”, – she noted  Maria Boguslav, head of the Association of Innovative and Digital Education.

To use the “Fake Calculator” you just need to go to the website of the new digital tool – fakecheck.in.ua, click “Start” and choose the answer to 5 questions about the news that causes you doubts. As a result, the program will display a conclusion on the veracity of the information. The entire verification procedure takes only a few minutes.
