Finnish President Alexander Stubb took part in a triathlon incognito and finished second in his category

The President of Finland, Alexander Stubb, took part in the sprint triathlon competition held in Joroinen. The head of state did not announce his participation publicly, but registered under a fictitious name — in the start list, he was marked only with the initials AS. This caused certain suspicions among participants and spectators, but they were confirmed immediately before the start of the competition, when Stubb personally went to the start. About this reported Finnish publication Ilta-Sanomat.
The triathlon, in which the president participated, consisted of a standard program for a sprint distance: 750 meters of swimming, 20 kilometers of cycling and 5 kilometers of running. Alexander Stubb managed to overcome the entire distance in 1 hour, 4 minutes and 19 seconds, which allowed him to take second place in the “fitness” category among men. This result is quite high, especially considering the busy schedule of the head of state and the lack of sports PR on his part.
The event took place as part of a traditional triathlon weekend organized every year in Joroinen, a popular destination for endurance events in Finland.
In addition, the attention of journalists is focused on another member of the presidential family – the son of the head of state, Oliver Stubb. He participates in the half marathon, which is part of the same sporting event.
It will be recalled that President Stubb is known for his activity in sports: he repeatedly participated in marathons, cross-country competitions and bicycle races. In the past, he has publicly stated that it is sports that help him maintain psychological endurance and balance in office. However, participating in the triathlon under a fictitious name was an example of personal initiative — without official announcements, security on the track or press coverage.
