EU and the world

France will receive funds from the EU from Russian assets for the supply of weapons to Ukraine

The European Union will allocate 300 million euros to France, obtained from the proceeds of frozen Russian assets, for the supply of weapons to Ukraine. About this reported the French Ministry of Defense.

In particular, they confirmed the country’s participation in the new support program for Ukraine, which is financed through the European Peace Fund. The total amount of the program is 1.4 billion euros, raised from the frozen assets of Russia, and these funds will go to provide Ukraine with military equipment.

The European Commission, together with the General Directorate for Armaments, decided to direct these funds to the accelerated purchase of important weapons from French manufacturers. By the end of 2024, it is planned to supply Ukraine with ammunition, artillery systems and air defense systems worth 300 million euros.

As noted by the French Ministry of Defense, this initiative will contribute to the further development of the French defense industry, while at the same time strengthening military support for Ukraine.

It is also worth noting that on September 6, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, had a telephone conversation with the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, on the eve of the next meeting of the Contact Group on Defense of Ukraine in the Rammstein format.

In addition, in July it was reported that France intends to provide an additional package of military aid to Ukraine, which includes the transfer of 128 VAB military transport vehicles, 18 Caesar artillery units and 24 light tanks.
