For the first time, the Ukrainian military used a flying Kalashnikov assault rifle in a battle with the Russian Federation: BILD

The armed forces of Ukraine for the first time used an innovative development against the Russian military — the Kalashnikov flying machine gun. About this informs BILD analyst Julian Repke.

This unique weapon was created by a group of Ukrainian engineers called Wild Hornets. They placed an AK-47 on a platform with four screws, turning it into a kind of drone. In August, this system was used for the first time to attack the positions of Russian troops.

The peculiarity of the flying machine is that it can be controlled remotely, the operator is at a safe distance of several kilometers. BILD analyst Julian Repke notes that the main technical challenge when creating such a weapon was to stabilize the AK-47 during firing. This is important so that the drone does not lose balance due to strong recoil and the accuracy of fire does not decrease. It is not yet known how effective this weapon is in combat conditions and whether its serial production is planned.

The test of the Kalashnikov flying machine gun is evidence of how Ukrainian engineers continue to look for new ways to increase the combat effectiveness of the Armed Forces, developing innovative solutions for waging war with Russia. Although the accuracy and effectiveness of this weapon still require additional testing, the very fact of its use is already attracting great interest both in Ukraine and abroad.

Such an innovation opens up new horizons in the field of unmanned systems, potentially creating new opportunities for remote warfare. However, the issues of serial production of these weapons and their mass use remain open.

AK-TK (Kalashnikov tactical assault rifle) is a modification of the Kalashnikov assault rifle, which is actively used by the Security Service of Ukraine and the Armed Forces of Ukraine from 1993 to 2023. It was also used in the Georgian army during the Ossetian conflict.

What is known about AK-TK

AK-TK is a modernized version of AK-103, developed by Ukrainian engineers of the “Fort” company after the collapse of the USSR. Although the development was completed earlier, mass production of the machine began only in 1993.

The main improvements of this model include:

  • new ergonomic pistol grip and folding telescopic stock with seven positions;
  • replacement of the receiver with a new one, equipped with Picatinny and Weaver rails, which allow the use of modern accessories;
  • installation of a “dovetail” on the forend together with a folding pistol grip;
  • modernized translator, which can be conveniently operated with one finger (index or thumb);
