Former Prime Minister of Pakistan Sentenced to 14 Years in Prison

A Pakistani court sentenced former Prime Minister Imran Khan, accused of corruption. He was sentenced to 14 years in prison and ordered to pay a significant fine for accepting bribes and laundering illegally obtained funds. If the fine is not paid, the prison term can be extended by another six months, informs Reuters.

The sentence was announced during a session held in Adiala prison. Also present at the hearing was Khan’s wife, Bushra Bibi, who was also found guilty of similar charges. She was sentenced to seven years in prison and arrested right in the courtroom.

The charges relate to receiving plots of land as bribes in 2018, as well as laundering money through the Al-Qadir Trust, which investigators say was used to cover illegal activities.

It will be recalled that Imran Khan served as the Prime Minister of Pakistan from 2018 to 2022, but was removed from office in April 2022 as a result of a vote of no confidence in the parliament. From 2023, he is already serving another 14-year prison term in the case of selling foreign gifts from the state fund.
