Former Romanian presidential candidate Georgescu decides to retire from politics

Former candidate for the post of president of Romania with pro-Russian views, Celin Georgescu, announced the end of his political activity. That’s what he’s about stated during the broadcast on the Realitatea Plus TV channel.

According to Georgescu, the current stage of his participation in political life is over, although he does not rule out the possibility of a return in the future.

“The Romanian presidential elections in 2025 have ended. With this in mind, I have decided to stop my active participation in the political process… From now on, I prefer to be a passive observer of public life.” Georgescu pointed out.

He added that he is “ready to return when there is a serious opportunity that will bring real benefit to Romania and the Romanian people.” In his opinion, political activism harms the country.

“When people’s attention is focused on political struggles that are irrelevant to the well-being of society, it means that people in professions necessary for the well-being of the country are left out. Thus, the country becomes poorer. Professionalism builds the country, and politics weakens it.”, he explained.

Georgescu also confirmed that he does not plan to join any political party:

“I am now focusing all my attention and energy on my family, who need peace and especially health after this intense and tumultuous period. I prefer to stay as far away from any party structure as possible.”

He emphasized that he strives to remain politically neutral:

“I don’t want to hold any positions in the Romanian state in the current situation.”

It will be recalled that Georgescu won the first round of the presidential elections in November, but later the Constitutional Court annulled the voting results due to suspicions of Russian interference in the election process through “aggressive hybrid actions” aimed at influencing the result.
