France has announced its readiness to send troops to Greenland if Denmark asks for it

France is ready to send a military contingent to Greenland if requested by Denmark. This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of France, Jean-Noel Barro, informs SudRadio.

The diplomat emphasized that the Arctic is becoming a new zone of geopolitical tension, and Europe should act more actively to protect this region.

“The borders of Europe are sovereign. And no one can afford to come and play with the borders. We have made this clear and will continue to confirm this… Denmark has announced that it is increasing its military presence in this region by 2 billion euros. Therefore, Denmark also believes that that we should do more to protect the Arctic from foreign influence or interference”Barro noted.

He also emphasized that the US will not take military action in this region, because “no one is interested in a conflict with the European Union.”

“Will the Americans invade Greenland? It will not happen. Nobody is interested in a conflict with the European Union. But if Denmark asks for solidarity from the member states of the European Union, France will respond,” – added the head of the French Foreign Ministry.

Earlier, the head of the EU Military Committee, Robert Briger, proposed the deployment of European troops in Greenland against the background of Donald Trump’s statements about his intention to acquire this autonomous territory, which is part of Denmark.
