Putin officially appointed a new Russian ambassador to the United States

Vladimir Putin appointed diplomat Oleksandr Darchiev as ambassador of the Russian Federation to the United States of America. The corresponding decree appeared on the website of the Kremlin.
“To appoint Oleksandr Mykytovych Darchiev as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the United States of America and Permanent Observer of the Russian Federation at the Organization of American States in Washington.” – says the decree.
Darchiev began his diplomatic career in 1992 and already held various positions in the Russian mission in Washington. From 2014 to 2021, he served as Russia’s ambassador to Canada, after which he headed the North Atlantic Department. In between appointments in diplomatic institutions, he was a member of the leadership of the Department of North America of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.
We will remind that the previous ambassador of the Russian Federation to the USA, Anatoly Antonov, completed his work in October 2024. He has been the head of the Russian Embassy in the United States since August 2017. On February 18, at a meeting in Saudi Arabia, the United States and Russia agreed to resume the work of embassies.
