Gambling providers paid 1.8 billion hryvnias in taxes in May

Revenues of the state budget from gambling providers increased more than twice in annual terms. During May alone, the gaming business paid UAH 1.8 billion in taxes. One of the reasons for this growth is detinization.

In particular, 1.3 billion hryvnias (73.8%) of revenues are income tax deductions. Another quarter of the paid amount is personal income tax.

In general, during January-May of the current year, gambling business owners and players themselves paid 7.3 billion hryvnias in taxes. This is 3.1 times more than was paid during the first five months of 2023.

We will remind you that in April, the Prosecutor General’s Office conducted raids and inspections of representatives of the gambling business. Currently, 450 criminal proceedings have been opened in the country regarding the illegal organization of gambling. In particular, law enforcement officers managed to close hundreds of illegal online casinos.

“As a result of the recommendations sent by law enforcement officers to block illegal resources, more than 2,500 websites that provided gambling activities and hosted online casino resources without an appropriate license have been blocked,” the Prosecutor General’s Office reported at the end of April.

The introduction of restrictions by the National Bank of Ukraine regarding the number and amount of money transfers between citizens’ cards also contributed to the emergence of part of the gambling business from the shadows. On some large online casino sites, payment operations for replenishing accounts or withdrawing funds have not been possible for more than a month.
