Gas reserves in Ukraine’s storage facilities have fallen to their lowest level in 11 years

Natural gas reserves in Ukrainian underground storages (SGS) amount to 6.02 billion cubic meters, which corresponds to a filling level of 19.4%. Compared to the same date last year, the volume of gas in storage is 31.7% less, or 2.79 billion cubic meters. Current inventory levels are the lowest in 11 years. Such data leads ExPro Daily Gas
Ukraine continues to inject gas into PSG, although on May 11, the volume of injections decreased to 26 million cubic meters. At the same time, in May 2025, the rate of injection remains higher than last year — since the beginning of the month, more than 350 million cubic meters of natural gas have already arrived in storage, which is 33% more than in the same period in 2024.
Since the beginning of the pumping season, which started on April 17, PSG received 610 million cubic meters of gas, including 258 million in April. According to ExPro forecasts, by the end of May 2025, with stable imports at the level of approximately 14 million cubic meters per day, total reserves in PSG may reach about 6.6 billion cubic meters. In addition, natural gas production, which was damaged as a result of massive Russian attacks in February-March, is gradually being restored in Ukraine.
We will remind that since the beginning of the year, the import of natural gas to Ukraine amounted to 1.12 billion cubic meters, which is almost 10 times more than in the same period of the previous year. “Ukrgazvydobuvannya” lost 50% of its capacity due to strikes by the Russian Federation, but more than half of the volumes have already been restored. Given the losses and decrease in domestic production, Ukraine will significantly increase gas imports in 2025.
