The German government has expressed readiness to purchase additional Patriot air defense systems from the United States in order to transfer them to Ukraine. About this stated Chancellor of Germany Friedrich Merz.
“Germany is ready to purchase additional Patriot systems from the USA to provide them to Ukraine”, – noted Mertz.
He said that last week he discussed this issue with US President Donald Trump and requested the delivery of Patriot systems to the Ukrainian side. The politician also noted that although the US needs some of the Patriot systems for its own purposes, “but it also has a lot of them.”
It will be recalled that on July 4 it became known that Germany is conducting active negotiations with the United States regarding the provision of Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine against the background of increasing missile attacks from Russia. According to the spokesman of the German government, Stefan Cornelius, the negotiations are taking place taking into account Ukraine’s urgent needs for air defense equipment, in particular due to the temporary suspension of certain arms deliveries from the US.
“There are different ways to meet Ukraine’s needs in air defense. I can say that there are indeed intensive negotiations on this issue.” – said Cornelius.
