Google Wallet allowed children to make contactless payments on their own

Google has announced an update to the functionality of the Google Wallet digital wallet, which allows children to pay for purchases in stores contactlessly using Android devices. About this informs Finextra.

In addition to payments, kids will be able to use Google Wallet to store and access a variety of passes — event tickets, reader passes, and gift cards. The company emphasizes that you can add a child’s payment card only with the consent of the parents.

For control purposes, parents will receive emails every time their child makes a transaction. They will be able to review recent purchases, delete cards or disable access to passes, providing full control over spending and security.

The update is planned to be rolled out over the next few weeks in five countries: the US, the UK, Australia, Spain and Poland. There is no information on further expansion to other regions yet.

It will be recalled that in November, the Australian Parliament passed a law prohibiting the use of social networks for children under 16 years of age. According to him, platforms such as Instagram and Facebook should block access to minors.
