HACC sentenced MP Gunko to 7 years in prison for accepting a bribe

The Supreme Anti-Corruption Court (HCC) found People’s Deputy Anatoliy Gunko guilty of demanding and receiving a bribe in the amount of $85,000 and sentenced him to 7 years in prison with confiscation of all property and a ban on holding certain positions. About this informs press service of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAP).

“On March 25, 2025, the panel of judges of the Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry announced a guilty verdict against a People’s Deputy of Ukraine, who was found guilty of illegally receiving $85,000 for securing the lease of state lands of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine to a private enterprise.”, the message says.

Gunko is required to wear an electronic bracelet until the sentence becomes final. The case has been in court since February 2024.

During the pre-trial investigation, it was established that Gunko, who was the head of the Temporary Investigative Commission of the VRU on the investigation of corruption in the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences (NAAS), incited a representative of a private enterprise to bribe officials of the Academy and the head of a local state authority.

It was about the lease of 1,700 hectares of state land, which was used by the state-owned enterprise NAAS, and the subsequent non-obstruction of economic activity. The deputy demanded $221,000. – at the rate of $130 per hectare.

People’s deputy and two of his accomplices were detained after receiving part of the amount – $85 thousand. Materials regarding accomplices are allocated to separate proceedings. The verdict can be appealed to the Appeals Chamber of the VAX within 30 days.
