Harvest has started in Ukraine: this year’s harvest is expected to be smaller than last year’s

The harvest has begun in Ukraine. This year’s harvest is expected to be smaller than last year’s, but this will not contribute to higher prices. About this informs press service of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy.

As of June 27, grain began to be harvested in Odesa, Mykolaiv and Dnipropetrovsk regions. Agrarian farms in Odesa and Mykolaiv regions have also already started harvesting rapeseed. This is a rather late start to the season, because last year the harvest began on June 6.

“We are facing a difficult season. An abnormally warm winter, at first there was no moisture, then prolonged rains delayed the sowing campaign in some regions for two weeks. Therefore, we expect a decrease in the harvest.” — explained Minister of Agrarian Policy Vitaly Koval.

According to the minister’s forecast, this year’s grain harvest may decrease by 10% to 51 million tons. Ukraine can harvest approximately 26 million tons of corn, 4.5 million tons of barley, 1.5 million tons of small grains, 11.5 million tons of sunflowers, and 11 million tons of sugar beets.

The wheat harvest, according to Koval, will be from 20 to 22 million tons, the exact figure will depend on weather conditions and the military situation. The total volume of harvested oil crops in 2025 may decrease to 20.16 million tons against 21.18 million tons in 2024, in particular due to a decrease in the rapeseed harvest by 600,000 tons. tons

Last year’s crop failure caused a jump in inflation — it reached 15.9% in May. The National Bank expects that price growth will slow down in the summer due to the arrival of new agricultural products on the market.
