The Chairman of the VRU Committee on Finance, Tax and Customs Policy, Danylo Hetmantsev, said that the situation with the financing of the state budget in 2026 is extremely difficult due to uncertainty in the issue of external support. During the discussion with the IMF, there was talk of potential sources of filling the budget. One of them is the detinization of the economy. Hetmantsev noted that at least 4 billion dollars more than planned should be collected this year, and even more next year. This requires full coordination of the efforts of the State Customs Service, the State Tax Service and the Bureau of Economic Security.

He called the reduction of state expenses another direction. In this context, Hetmantsev mentioned the “National Cashback” program, which he considers ineffective and is convinced that it is possible to save on it.

At the same time, Hetmantsev emphasized that it is still too early to talk about raising taxes:

“I believe that tax increases cannot be considered until the above-mentioned resources are exhausted. The financing situation in 2026 is extremely difficult. We are working on finding sources.”
