How grades will be recalculated for Ukrainian schoolchildren who have returned from abroad

Most of the Ukrainian refugee children are already studying in schools in the countries where their families received temporary protection. At the same time, they continue to complete tasks on an externship basis or study remotely in Ukrainian schools. In order to reduce the burden on students, the Ministry of Education created a system of re-enrollment of grades in core subjects.

The department has developed a special table that converts the points received by students in schools of other countries to the Ukrainian 12-point system. The table contains scales for 25 countries (Poland, Germany, USA, France, Czech Republic, Canada, etc.). Students will have to study specifically Ukrainian subjects (history, Ukrainian language, literature, geography) separately and take tests or exams.

“Previously, schools did not have clear scales of correspondence between Ukrainian and foreign grades. Now the work of teachers will be somewhat easier, and parents and students will be calm about their results. Students can recalculate grades from subjects shared with the country of residence. The remaining subjects, such as Ukrainian language, literature , history, they study according to modified (shortened) programs and pass assessments remotely. If the assessment systems are different, it is recommended to assign an assessment in favor of the child.” – the Ministry of Education said.

The table with rating scales can be viewed by link.

We will remind you that the Ministry of Education and Science has created shortened courses on Ukrainian language and literature, history of Ukraine, and geography, which should help children who have gone abroad to learn the main points of the program faster.

Teachers who will work with children under a shortened program have the right to adapt and change courses, taking into account the educational needs of students. You can view materials for abbreviated study of specific Ukrainian subjects and methodical recommendations for them at link.
