In Australia, government officials were banned from using DeepSeek

Australia has decided to ban DeepSeek from all government systems and devices, becoming one of the first countries to take action against the Chinese startup. About this informs Bloomberg.

Home Secretary Tony Burke said all DeepSeek products, applications and services would be immediately removed from government systems due to threats to national security.

In his opinion, the risk assessment conducted by the intelligence services proved that this technology poses an unacceptable threat:

“Artificial intelligence has enormous potential and many possibilities, but the government will not hesitate to take action if our agencies identify a risk to national security.”

Responding to possible criticism of the decision due to DeepSeek AI’s Chinese origin, the minister emphasized that the government’s approach is based on assessing the risks to state structures and their assets, not on the origin of the company.

The restrictions do not apply to citizens’ personal devices, but Burke urged all Australians to think about how their data is used online.
