In Britain, an MP was detained on suspicion of sexual crimes, among the victims is a child

In the United Kingdom, law enforcement officers detained a 65-year-old deputy from the Labor Party, the mayor of the West of England, Dan Norris. He is suspected of committing a number of sexual crimes, including the alleged rape of a child. As writes The Guardian, citing police in Avon and Somerset, is talking about alleged crimes that took place in the 2000s, as well as in the 2020s.

Several police units are investigating the case, and the first materials about Norris came to investigators in December 2024. Dan Norris was taken into custody after his arrest, but was later released on bail. The Labor Party announced the immediate removal of the politician from his duties, but refrained from making any statements about the allegations against him pending the conclusion of the investigation.

Norris began his political career in 1997, when he first won a seat in the House of Commons. He remained a deputy until 2010 and held the position of Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection. In 2021, he became the mayor of the West of England, and in 2024 he again entered the parliament. According to his official website as the representative for the North East Somerset and Henham constituency, he previously worked as a teacher and specialist in the field of children’s rights.

In the background of this case, other scandals are also mentioned, in particular, the investigation of the actor Russell Brand, who is suspected of a series of sexual crimes between 1999 and 2005. He should be heard in court on May 2.
