In Chernivtsi, a journalist was sentenced to 5 years in prison for a video about mobilization

The Chernivtsi Court of Appeal upheld the sentence of 5 years in prison to a local blogger who was accused of publishing a video on the TikTok platform. The woman filmed the process of forced mobilization: according to the court, it showed a military facility — a regional assembly point. About this it is said in the decision placed in the Unified Register of Court Decisions.

According to court documents, the incident took place in August 2024. The video, titled “Saving the Boy,” garnered 8,600 views before it was removed from TikTok. The woman claimed that the purpose of the publication was to record alleged human rights violations during the mobilization.

At the same time, the prosecutor’s office stated that the location of the military object could be determined in the video, and the blogger, despite the warning, continued filming. The defense insisted that the facility was not classified and that the video contained no data that would reveal strategically important information.

The court of first instance found her guilty of disclosing information about the location of a military facility under martial law. The accused was sentenced to five years in prison, and the smartphone used for filming was confiscated.

The appellate court left the sentence unchanged. At the same time, the court’s decision can still be appealed in the Criminal Court of Cassation as part of the Supreme Court within three months from the moment of its announcement.
