In Switzerland, stalking has been included in the list of criminal offenses

The Swiss Parliament has finally approved the inclusion of stalking — intrusive and unwanted harassment — in the list of criminal acts in the country’s Criminal Code. About this reportedKeystone-ATS agency.
The Council of Cantons, the upper house of the parliament, voted for the corresponding compromise initiative. Previously, it was supported by the National Council, the lower house.
Manifestations of stalking include repeated calls or messages at any time, threatening letters, intrusive gifts, and street stalking. A distinctive feature of such actions is their systematicity and the creation of a threat to the person who becomes the object of persecution.
According to the new law, persistent harassment or threats that limit a person’s freedom to lead a normal life are punishable by up to three years in prison or a fine.
The initial initiative of 2024 provided for the automatic initiation of criminal proceedings in such cases, citing the fact that victims are often afraid to contact law enforcement. However, the agreed compromise determines that the investigation is possible only after the official statement of the affected person.
