Georgian opposition announces action plan and prepares for daily protests

On the evening of 4 November, three Georgian opposition parties held a large-scale protest in the centre of Tbilisi, during which they announced their plan of action. Their demands are to annul the results of the parliamentary elections and call for a new vote. This was reported by the Georgian service of Radio Liberty.
The protesters marched through the main streets of Tbilisi, ending their march near the parliament. The action was initiated by the Coalition for Change, Unity – National Movement and Strong Georgia parties, which believe that the elections were rigged and call for new elections under international supervision.
Levan Tsutskiridze, a representative of Strong Georgia, outlined the opposition’s plan, which includes:
- Bringing information about election fraud to all citizens;
- Convincing the international community not to recognise the results;
- Active resistance in all spheres.
‘If there are a thousand of us, we will not achieve anything, if there are ten thousand of us, we will not achieve anything, and if there are a hundred thousand or more of us, then we will succeed, friends,’ Tsutskiridze said, addressing the audience.
Nika Melia, one of the leaders of the Coalition for Change, said that the opposition would boycott the sessions of the new parliament and announced daily protests.
‘These protests will be daily, not a single calendar day will pass without protests in the streets, and ultimately it [could] soon develop into a powerful protest movement that will bring down the regime,’ Melia said.
He added that the next action will take place on 5 November at 14:00 near the Sports Palace in Tbilisi.
