In the Chernihiv region, local authorities destroyed a mass grave of Holodomor victims

In the village of Ivkivtsi of the Ladan community in Chernihiv region, the authorities bulldozed the mass burial site of Holodomor victims, where at least 162 people are buried. Local residents tried to stop the work, but to no avail. About this reported National Holodomor Genocide Museum.
It is noted that heavy equipment was working on the territory of the burial site. Local residents protested, claiming that they had not been warned about these works. According to the residents of Ivkivtsi, they have repeatedly appealed to the village head with a request to stop the equipment, as many of them have relatives who died during the Holodomor buried in this place.
Journalists tried to get a comment from village head Roman Yuvchenko, but he refused to speak on camera. In the comment, he noted that this plot is not considered a cemetery according to community documents. According to him, the works are carried out according to the decision of the executive committee as part of the improvement program. They do not plan to stop them, instead they promise to green the territory and establish a memorial to the victims of the Holodomor.
The National Museum of the Holodomor-genocide emphasized that the cemetery in Ivkivtsi is one of over a thousand documented places of mass burials on the territory of Ukraine. It is included in the geoinformation system “Mass burial places of victims of the Holodomor-genocide”, created in 2019. At least 162 people, including many children, died in Ivkivtsi from the Holodomor. As the museum emphasizes, these are only the names that have been established.
“Most of the dead found their final resting place right here, in the old cemetery. Villagers still visit the graves of their relatives.” – says the statement of the museum.
Currently, the National Holodomor Genocide Museum has appealed to the Chairman of the Ladansk TG and the Chairman of the Prylutsk RDA with a request to preserve this place of burial of the victims of the Holodomor, to restore the beautification of the memorial area as much as possible and to ensure its proper marking.
