A register of chemical substances will be launched in Ukraine

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved the Procedure for maintaining the State Register of Chemical Substances, which will become a key tool for controlling chemical products on the Ukrainian market. About this reported Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine.

The register will contain information on all chemical substances that are produced, imported and sold in Ukraine, if their volume exceeds one ton per year. This applies not only to industrial chemicals, but also to household chemicals such as cleaning products, paints, clothing, furniture and electrical appliances.

Olena Kramarenko, Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources, noted that mandatory registration of chemicals became necessary in accordance with the Technical Regulations on the Safety of Chemical Products, approved by the government at the end of July this year. This step is part of the implementation of the European REACH regulation, which is aimed at increasing the level of protection of human health and the environment.

“The register will become an official open database on chemical substances. Everyone will be able to find in it information about manufacturers, importers, suppliers, as well as about the dangerous properties of chemical products, their sales volumes on the market, classification according to international standards, possible risks and safety measures.”, – emphasized Olena Kramarenko.

The introduction of this register is an important step towards increasing the transparency and safety of chemical products on the Ukrainian market, which will help to better protect consumers and the environment.

A chemical register will be created on the platform EcoSystem, which is the only national environmental online platform. The Ministry is working on the development of a special module — the Chemical Safety Information System, where the Register will be located. The official launch of the system is planned in six months.
